Thermostatic radiator valve
Selection of Control Valves in Variable Flow Systems (BG 51/2014) written by Chris Parsloe and published by BSRIA in June 2014, defines a thermostatic radiator valve (TRV) as: ‘A self-acting valve that relies on an integral thermostatic head (typically an expandable wax plug or liquid capsule) to close the valve when the surrounding air temperature reaches its set-point. TRVs also operate with remote sensing heads.’
It suggests that typical applications include Modulating proportional control of heat outputs from individual radiators, convectors, trench heaters or radiant panels in variable flow branches.
